The Wedding of Katherine & Jordan

Katherine jordan www.roeparkresort.com

Tell us a little about how you met & talk us through the proposal

Our love story began back in 2013 when we worked with each other in Barrys Amusements in Portrush, both knowing each other to see but never becoming friendly. We both went our separate ways for years, chasing degrees and building careers, never guessing that years later we would be getting married to each other. Fast forward to 2023, our paths crossed again back in Portrush. After a few beach walks and dinner dates out, we knew this was more than a friendship. People say, ‘you know when you know’ and we firmly believe this! After 1 year of dating we went on a cold and windy walk along the beach. Halfway through the walk Jordan got down on one knee and popped the question. As we were standing there looking out to the beach and with Barrys Amusements behind us, we knew this was the start of our forever journey and couldn’t be more excited!

Where did you have your ceremony?

Our ceremony took place in Holy Trinity Church in Portrush. This church was Jordan’s church growing up and holds a special place in our hearts as Portrush is a key location in our story.

Why Roe Valley Resort?

I (Katherine) grew up just outside Limavady and have such fond memories of attending family weddings at Roe Valley. Every wedding I attended was beautiful and it was always evident how smoothly the day ran from start to finish. The surroundings of the hotel are just beautiful and remind me of growing up in the countryside. Jordan is a keen golfer and having the golf course as part of our wedding day was a highlight! From the day we got engaged we knew we wanted to have our wedding reception in Roe Valley. We got engaged on the 21st December and booked our wedding reception on the 27th December!

Tell us the most memorable part of your day

It is hard to pick the most memorable part of our day as every minute of it was memorable. Here are a few that we cherish: After leaving the church to the sound of the bag pipes we got into our wedding car and headed down the coast road to Downhill Beach for photographs, we got some beautiful beach photographs with Mussenden Temple in the background and even got a Mr Whippy ice cream. When our wedding car pulled up outside the hotel, all our guests cheered and welcomed us in. The reception area and the Danny Boy Suite were decorated beautifully by the hotel and by Canterbury Tails. Walking into the Danny Boy Suite and seeing everything we had planned come to life was the most surreal feeling ever! Before our dinner commenced, we planned for a photo dash to take place. The song Thunderstruck came on and we ran around all the tables and got group photographs with all our guests. Our guests loved this! Another highlight of our day was when Jordan got presented with a Mojito (Jordan’s favourite cocktail) after his speech. This was complimentary and Roe Valley went out of their way to get this cocktail for Jordan as they knew it was his favourite. It’s the little things like this that made the day so memorable! As the dinner was being served a waiter “fell’ and “dropped” a tray of cutlery. Unknown to us, my mother had arranged for ‘Singers Secreto’ to perform. Ater a few minutes the waiter got up off the floor and surprised everyone (us included) by performing an array of songs that got everyone up on their feet dancing and set the vibe for the night. The food was exceptional! All our guests passed remarks on the day of how much they enjoyed the dinner. A personal favourite of ours was the Berry Crumble, delicious! We had some guests with allergies and dietary requirements, the staff ensured that all requests were met. The bridal suite was stunning. We loved wakening up to the views of the golf course and the mountains. We reserved 20 rooms for our guests, and all 20 rooms were booked. All guests enjoyed their stay at Roe Valley and thoroughly enjoyed breakfast the following morning. As a nod to our Barrys Amusement Days, having the Helter Skelter on site was very special. We were able to use the golf buggy to travel around the grounds and captured some great photographs on the Helter Skelter and the golf course. From start to finish our day was a dream come true. Throughout the entire day we were guided by both the hotel staff and our photographer. This made everything run smoothly which created a stress-free day for us and the guests. The staff at Roe Valley Resort could not have done more for us. All staff were attentive, professional, great fun and very accommodating to anything we needed.

Tell us about the entertainment you had on the day

From start to finish the entertainment provided throughout the day was brilliant! It all started at the church, where the sound of bag pipes filled the streets of Portrush. Following this, Infinity Wedding band had a duo play beautiful songs at the church and then moved onto the drinks reception and evening do in Roe Valley. As an added extra, we got dry ice and indoor fire works for our first dance. Whilst the band played ‘Beautiful Crazy by Luke Combs’ the fire works went off and the dry ice covered the dance floor. A truly special and unforgettable memory.

Did you have any unique décor and/or theme throughout the wedding?

Having a Winter wedding had always been a dream of ours, when Roe Valley had the 15th November available for our wedding all our dreams became a reality. Our favourite colours are burgundy and Navy which suited perfectly for a Winter wedding. Roe Valley ensured that Christmas decorations were up and promised that the large Christmas tree would be ready in the lobby for our group photo. This photograph turned out beautifully and our Burgandy/Navy Winter wedding theme was a success.
